What causes the splash on Hoya?

The splash on hoya plants is a totally normal thing! It's caused by tiny air pockets that get trapped between the leaf cuticle and the main leaf tissue.

To the best of my knowledge, if your Hoya has a natural splash, it might be caused by the ambient conditions, including the amount of light, as powerful indirect light can create the splash you described.
